Sabbath, July 03, 2010  - "I want to see the Lord's hand!"

1

“Luke, the writer of the Gospel that bears his name, was a medical missionary. In the Scriptures he is called "the beloved physician." Colossians 4:14. The apostle Paul heard of his skill as a physician, and sought him out as one to whom the Lord had entrusted a special work. He secured his co-operation, and for some time Luke accompanied him in his travels from place to place. After a time, Paul left Luke at Philippi, in Macedonia. Here he continued to labor for several years, both as a physician and as a teacher of the gospel. In his work as a physician he ministered to the sick, and then prayed for the healing power of God to rest upon the afflicted ones. Thus the way was opened for the gospel message. Luke's success as a physician gained for him many opportunities for preaching Christ among the heathen. It is the divine plan that we shall work as the disciples worked. Physical healing is bound up with the gospel commission. In the work of the gospel, teaching and healing are never to be separated.  {MH 140.1}

Psalms 119:126, "It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law."

"...Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God." -Isaiah 40:3

Matthew 4:23-24, "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.  And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them."

Mark 6:12-13, "And they went out, and preached that men should repent.  And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them."

Acts 5:12-16, "And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.  And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.  And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women)  Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.  There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one."

Acts 14:9-10, "The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,  Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked."

"We must grasp in confidence the rich promises of God, Then we shall be overcomers. Signs of the Times, Vol. IV, Page 143

There is no power in the whole satanic force that can disable the soul that trusts, in simple confidence, in the wisdom that comes from God. The Youth's Instructor, December 15, 1898

James 1:5-7, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord."

Romans 10:17, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

7

The principals of the Gospel should have a controlling power over us, that we may have the mind that was in Christ, and be pure as he was pure.  Review and Herald, Vol. II, Page 406

Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:"

Matthew 9:27-30, "And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.  And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.  Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.  And their eyes were opened;…”

Psalms 55:17, "Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice."

Matthew 7:7-8, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

10

The soul must be barricaded by prayer and the study of the scriptures.  Armed with these weapons, Jesus encountered the wiley for on the field of battle, and overcame him.  We may conquer in His  strength; but it will not answer for us to suppose that we can dispense with His help.  He says, “without me, you can do nothing.”  Signs of the Times, Vol. I, Page 442

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Revelation 3:10

11

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mark 9:23

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5: 24

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:5

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Phillipians 4:13

Awake to righteousness, and sin not…1 Corinthians 15:34

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear  it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

12

1 John 5:4, "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."

13

Man is not left alone to conquer the power of evil by his own feeble efforts. Help is at hand and will be given to every soul who really desires it. Angels of God, that ascend and descend the ladder which Jacob saw in vision, will help every soul who will, to climb even to the highest heaven. Patriarchs and Prophets, page 568

The very ones whom God purposes to use as His instruments for a special work, Satan employs his utmost power to lead astray. He attacks us at our weak points, working through defects in the character to gain control of the whole man; and he knows that if these defects are cherished, he will succeed. But none need be overcome.

The surrender must be complete.  Every weak, doubting, struggling soul who yields fully to the Lord, is place in direct touch with agencies that enable him to overcome.  Heaven is near to him, and he has the support and help of angels of mercy in every trial and need.   Acts of the Apostles, Page 299

14

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27

James 1:14-15, "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished 2 Peter 2:9

15

Satan cannot hold the dead in his grasp when the Son of God bids them live. He cannot hold in spiritual death one soul who  in faith receives Christ's word of power. God is saying to all who are dead in sin, "Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead." Ephesians 5:14, The Desire of Ages, page 320

Today Satan presents the same temptations that he presented to Christ, offering us the kingdoms of the world in return for our allegiance. But upon him who looks to Jesus as the author and finisher of his faith, Satan's temptations have no power. He cannot cause to sin the one who will accept by faith the virtues of Him who was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin. Selected Messages Book 1, page 224

Matthew 15:8, "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."

James 1:6-8, "But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
