The following is from the May, 1994 issue of Charisma Magazine:
'Stunned by the staggering growth of evangelical
"sects" in Brazil, leaders of the Roman Catholic
Church have threatened to launch a "holy war" against
Protestants unless they stop leading people from the Catholic
fold.… At the 31st National Conference of the Bishops of
Brazil … Bishop Sinesio Bohn [called] evangelicals a serious
threat to the Vatican's influence in his country. "We will
declare a holy war; don't doubt it,' he announced. 'The Catholic
Church has a ponderous structure, but when we move, we'll smash
anyone beneath us.' … According to Bohn, an all-out holy war
can't be avoided unless the 13 largest Protestant churches and
denominations sign a treaty … [that] would require
Protestants to stop all evangelism efforts in Brazil. In
exchange, he said, Catholics would agree to stop all persecution
directed toward Protestants.' "

Very interesting, eh? So this bishop admits that the persecution
of Protestants is still official Catholic policy. The beast still
has teeth, eh? But right now they are "baby teeth",
expect them to grow! Their prime concern isn't to spread the good
news of salvation through Jesus, but rather to maintain their
ascendancy and influence in the region and to keep Brazilians in
the Catholic Church. Just a couple of months prior, Evangelicals
and Catholics pledged to support eachtother and work together.
The ECT document was signed at that time. In the U.S.,
Protestants and Catholics are shaking hands. In Brazil, the
Catholic Church shook their iron fist and laid down the law! See
how well the RCC adapts and suites herself to differing climates?
If the RCC were to gain that kind of clout here in the U.S., she
would act in like manner as she did in Brazil. And "bye
bye" to religious freedom as we know it. No question about
it. Rome is only interested in one thing and one thing only. And
that is the restoration of the power and primacy that they
enjoyed prior to 201 years ago, when the French took the Pope
captive in 1798 and struck a "deadly wound" to the
Papacy's temporal power. If anyone has "ears to hear"
and "eyes to see", then they will escape the snare that
is surely coming upon us. God help us all to be ready.
Peace,
Lou
